Jean Nouvel’s Cathedral of Sound on Lake Lucerne
The Lucerne Festival represents the summit of global classical and symphonic excellence. Anchored in the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern (KKL), designed by French Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel with acoustic engineering by Russell Johnson, the concert hall features an adjustable acoustic canopy that can alter the chamber’s resonance volume according to individual orchestra compositions.
The hall's copper roof extends cantilevered 45 meters over the water plaza of Lake Lucerne, pulling water channels directly inside the foyer. Attendees step out at intermission to Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi reflecting on the lake surface.
